In pursuit of self – reliance in critical technologies relevant to national security, Defence Research and Development Organisation ( DRDO ) formulates and executes programmes of scientific research, design, development. Testing and evaluation of various systems, subsystems, devices and products required for defence of the nation, DRDO employs highly qualified and competent scientists and technologists in group ‘A’ ( Class 1 ) technical service known as Defence Research & Development Services ( DRDS ).
DRDO was formed in 1958 from the amalgamation of the then functioning Technical Development Establishment ( TDEs ) of the Indian Army and the Directorate of Technical Development & Production ( DTDP ) with the Defence Science Organisation ( DSO ).
Today, DRDO is having more than 50 labs, engaged in developing Defence Technologies covering various disciplines like aeronautics, armaments, electronics, combat vehicles, engineering systems, instrumentation, missiles, advanced computing and simulation, special materials, naval systems, life sciences, training, information systems and agriculture.
DRDO is backed by over 7000 scientists and about 25,000 other scientific, technical and supporting personnel.

GTRE ( Bangalore ) is a premier lab of DRDO responsible for indigenous development of Aero engines. The lab is involved in Design, Development, Fabrication and qualification testing of the Aero engines. The activities of GTRE encompass all engine components viz. Intake, Fan, Compressor, Turbine, Combustor, Gear Box, Nozzle control system, air turbine starter, etc. ( For more details visit http://drdo.org ).
DRDO is looking for result oriented professional who may be positioned as director, GTRE from Academic / Scientific Institutions, Industry on the basis of direct recruitment or Deputation / Permanent Absorption.
The incumbent should have vast experience in design, development and productionisation of aero engines. He should be capable of heading and directing research teams in this area.
Enthusiastic Indian nationals or NRIs ( Indian Passport Holder ) with established scientific & managerial credentials may apply for the post fulfilling the following DRDO RAC requirements :
Essentials :
(i) At least first class Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical / Aero Engineering or Technology from a recognized University or equivalent.
Minimum of Fifteen years’ experience in research or design or development or production in development, prototype fabrication and qualification testing engines & its critical components.
Desirable : Master’s Degree or PhD in Aero Engineering or Technology.
Age limit as on closing date :
a. For Direct Recruitment : Not exceeding 54 years i.e. 20th Mar. 2012.
b. For Deputation / Permanent Absorption : Not exceeding 56 years.
