Southern Railway Applications are invited in the prescribed format from the Citizens of India and from such other persons declared eligible by Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India to fill up 3,592 vacancies (S.Rly – 3,087 & ICF – 505) from Open Market in Pay Band-1 of 5,200-20,200 with Grade Pay of 1,800/- in Southern Railway (S.Rly.) and Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
Important : Candidates may please note that Physical Efficiency Test (PET) will be held during the same period simultaneously by all the Railways. Similarly, Written Examination will be held on the same day simultaneously by all the Railways.

1.0 Southern Railway Eligibility Criteria :
1.1 Age Limit for Southern Railway Recruitment 2011 :

1.2 SR Railway Special Relaxations of Age Limit :
|1.2.1||Serving Railway Employees||Serving Railway Employees including Casual Labourers and Substitutes who have put in a minimum of 3 years service||UR : Up to 40 years

|1.2.2||Staff of Quasi Administrative Offices of Rly. Organisations||Such as Railway Canteens, Railway Institutes and Railway Co-op. Societies||Relaxation of age will be to the extent of 5 years or service rendered by them in such organisations, whichever is less.|

1.3 Proof of Age : The candidate shall enclose a copy of any of the following documents in support of Date of Birth, along with the Application Form.
- Birth Certificate issued by Municipal authorities.
- Transfer Certificate issued by School / College authority.
- Matric / SSLC / Senior Secondary / HSC Mark sheet
2.0 SR Railway Educational Qualification :
2.1 Minimum 10 th Pass or ITI or equivalent at the time of applying.
2.2 Candidates having higher Educational Qualification can also apply.
Community Certificate :
1. SC / ST Candidates : Candidates claiming to belong to SC / ST communities are required to submit Community Certificates from the competent authority in the prescribed format (Annexure–I) (Download the Proforma from the SR Railway website) and enclose a copy of the same with the Application Form.
2. OBC Candidates : Candidates claiming to belong to Other Backward Classes are required to submit Community Certificates from the competent authority in the prescribed format (Annexure–II) (Download the Proforma from the SR Railway website) and submit a copy of the same with the Application Form. Further, Community Certificates of candidates belonging to OBC should specifically indicate that the candidate does not belong to persons / sections (Creamy layer), as per Annexure–II.
Persons with Disabilities : Definitions of Disabilities : Definitions of categories of disabilities for the purpose of recruitment are given below.
Visually Handicapped :
(a) Blindness : “Blindness” refers to a condition where a person suffers from any of the following conditions, namely :
- Total absence of sight, or
- Visual acuity not exceeding 6/60 or 20/200 (snellen) in the better eye with correcting lenses; or
- Limitation of the field of vision subtending an angle of 20 degrees or worse;
(b) Low vision : “Persons with low vision” means a person with impairment of visual functioning even after treatment or standard refractive correction but who uses or is potentially capable of using vision for the planning or execution of a task with appropriate assistive device.
Hearing Handicapped : Hearing Impairment: “Hearing Impairment” means loss of 60 decibels or more in the better ear in the conversational range of frequencies.
Orthopaedically Handicapped :
(a) Locomotor disability : “Locomotor disability” means disability of the bones, joints or muscles leading to substantial restriction of the movement of the limbs or any form of cerebral palsy.
(b) Cerebral Palsy : “Cerebral Palsy” means a group of non-progressive conditions of a person characterised by abnormal motor control posture resulting from brain insult or injuries occurring in the pre-natal, peri-natal or infant period of development.
(c) All the cases of orthopaedically handicapped persons would be covered under the category of “Locomotor disability” or “Cerebral Palsy”.
Degree of Disability for Reservation : Only such persons would be eligible for reservation in services / posts who suffer from not less than 40 percent of relevant disability. Candidates should submit a Disability Certificate in the prescribed format (Annexure–III) (Download the Proforma from the website) issued by the competent authority and submit a copy of the same with the Application Form.
